“To eat is a necessity–to eat intelligently is an art.” - La Rochefoucauld
Established in 2007, Coqui the Chef™ is a social enterprise organization promoting healthier alternatives to traditional Latino cuisine. We provide innovative cooking demonstrations and nutrition workshops throughout the tri-state area.
We have since been highlighted in the local media including Bronx News Channel 12, WPIX Channel 11 and The New York Daily News (PRESS) for providing families with a fresh perspective on healthier eating and a fun mascot that stresses the importance of cooking as a family affair.
What is a coqui? The coqui is a tiny frog from Puerto Rico one who inspires pride in its citizens with his beautiful voice when he sings: "koh-KEE, koh-KEE!" Do you know there are several different species of coqui's that reside in Puerto Rico? Coqui the Chef™ is based on one of those endangered species called the "Cricket Coqui" who lives in the central mountain corrido of the Luquillo mountains. Since he is a cute little frog who is widely appreciated by all, we decided to dress him up as a chef to promote smart/healthy eating among children and adults. Whether you are Puerto Rican or not, there is a crisis of obesity and diabetes. Coqui The Chef™ encourages the value of daily nutrition and well-balanced meals.
